How statutory redundancy pay works

  • You need at least 2 years' service. With less, statutory redundancy pay is £0.
  • Half a week's pay for each full year you were under 22.
  • One week's pay for each full year you were 22 or older but under 41.
  • One and a half weeks' pay for each full year you were 41 or older.
  • Service is capped at 20 years, and weekly pay is capped at £751 for redundancies on or after 6 April 2026.

Years are counted back from the redundancy date, using your age at the start of each year. Service before age 18 is not counted. The weekly pay cap and maximum applied depend on the redundancy date: from 2026-04-06, £751 a week and a £22,530 maximum. For earlier dates check the rates on GOV.UK.

Employers can set the result against the final payslip with the payslip generator and see what is left after tax with the take-home pay calculator. This is a guide for statutory pay only; contractual redundancy pay can be higher.
