How the check works
- Which rate applies: the apprentice rate applies to apprentices under 19, and to apprentices aged 19 or over in the first year of their apprenticeship. Everyone else gets the rate for their age.
- Example: a 20-year-old working 37.5 hours a week at £10.85 an hour earns £406.88 a week, which is the legal minimum for that age.
- Rates change every 1 April. These are the rates from 1 April 2026, last checked 12 October 2026.
This is an estimate for general information. It compares your hourly rate with the rate for the age you enter and does not adjust for deductions, accommodation offsets or unpaid time. Check GOV.UK for your own circumstances.
